For everyone’s information:

The plan for the 17th, when the adult content ban comes in, is to protest.

To do that, we are making as much noise either side of the 17th as possible, and using the site as normal.

On the 17th, dead silence.

People are saying log off but what they really mean is don’t open the site or the app.

But, on the 17th make as much noise as possible on every other platform. Tweet about it and post on facebook and instagram and everywhere else.

What this does is causes a massive dip in ad revenue for one single day. That does not make staff think ‘oh everyone’s gone let’s shut down.’ What it actually makes them think is ‘oh shit people aren’t happy and if people don’t keep using our site we’re out of money and out of jobs.’

A boycott reminds a company that the users (consumers) have the power to make their site (business) worthless with one single coordinated decision.

If you want to join in, here’s what to do:

Do:

  • Close all open instances of the app and site on all your devices before the 17th
  • Make posts before and after the 17th on tumblr and other platforms, talking about why this ban is bad
  • Make posts on other sites during the 17th. Flood the official tumblr staff twitter and facebook with your anger and your opinion
  • Come back on the 18th and check in

Don’t:

  • Delete the app from your phone (this doesn’t affect their revenue and since it’s off the store at the moment it’ll be hard to get back)
  • Delete your account. I mean you can if you want to, but if you keep your account and don’t use it you’re saying to staff that there’s still time to save it. If you delete it’s hard work to come back.
  • Open the app or website (including specific blogs)
  • Make any posts (turn down/off your queue and make sure nothing is scheduled)
  • Go quiet elsewhere. Make it clear that this is just about tumblr, not a mass move away from all social media.

Remember: the execs don’t care about anything but money. Shutting down the site means there’s $0 further income from it. That’s their last possible course of action. If we make it clear we’re not happy, they’ll have to do something or we can do more and more until it becomes too expensive.

Protests take commitment. They’re a defiant action against a business that is doing something wrong. They will try to scare you into not participating, because they’re scared. We hold all the power here, sometimes the execs just need to be reminded of that.

Seems like a good idea, worth a try.

For real guys, this is worth a try!

I can understand your wish to leave tumblr from emotional POV. Rationally though…this platform is the best for the lovely content you usually post and there isn’t any adequate alternative😣 p.s. Just my luck to join a social media only few months before a massive crisis😫

I know. Sadly there is nowhere else like tumblr where I can do sequential photos in varying sizes, text rambles with photos, reblogs with snarky comments and have the randomness of reblogs to view on my dashboard.

My reasons are to Tumblr this is but Step 1. I don’t want to be around for whatever follows.

And their filter is shitty. I made two completely innocent posts after hearing about it and both got flagged immediately. One is still in content appeal. I specifically time my queues and if things are flagged I have no idea when people will end up seeing them once the blanket ban is in place. I don’t want to put time into posts that will ultimately end up being seen by no one because a computer squinted at my work and saw boobs.

The time has finally come.
We’re all getting booted from this platform, but we’re a community, and
we’ll rebuild elsewhere.  The current alternative
sites are less than ideal, but maybe one will be suitable, or a new platform
will arise in the coming weeks.

In the meantime, let’s make sure we export everything so that
all our work was not in vain. We suggest a few different ways to do this, to
ensure that nothing is lost.

1.  Send your email to
your favorite blogs to stay in touch.

Our email is: alongthehike@gmail.com

——-

2.  Export a list of
people that you follow, so you don’t forget any names/blogs accounts

While logged in, go to: http://www.tumblr.com/following.opml

This will automatically download a list of people you follow.  You can open the file in Excel.

————

3.  Export your blog/site
within Tumblr.

Go to https://www.tumblr.com/settings/blog/yourblogname

At the bottom click export.
It will take a while to process.
Once ready, click download backup.  Ideally we’ll be able to import these files into another platform, but you should probably do the following steps just in case.

——

4. Download your full site.

This is easy, but will take a while, and probably a few GB’s.

DL: https://www.httrack.com/

Choose the folder to download into.

Enter your site’s URL and run the program.  It will probably take a few hours.

“It allows you to download a World Wide Web site from the
Internet to a local directory, building recursively all directories, getting
HTML, images, and other files from the server to your computer. HTTrack
arranges the original site’s relative link-structure. Simply open a page of the
“mirrored” website in your browser, and you can browse the site from
link to link, as if you were viewing it online. HTTrack can also update an
existing mirrored site, and resume interrupted downloads. HTTrack is fully
configurable, and has an integrated help system.”

——–

5. Download all media from all of your favorite blogs.

TumblThree works great.

Download the file that says application: https://github.com/johanneszab/TumblThree/releases

Open the program and on the bottom left enter your blog’s
URL.  In settings make a new folder to
which the files should be downloaded.  Right click your blog and “add to Queue” then
click “Crawl”.

You can do this with any blog you follow, but it will only
take images, and no comments, tags, etc., hence the need to download your
entire site (and/or other sites) using HTTrack in step 4 above.

Downloading your “likes” is a bit more tricky.

Click settings, then connection, and log in with your Tumblr
credentials.

Add the following URL: https://www.tumblr.com/liked/by/yourblogname

Then add to queue and crawl again.

—-

With these
files/exports we should be able to migrate elsewhere and rebuild our community.  It will be hard to credit everyone for their
work, but we’ll do our best.

If you have any questions on the above just respond here, or
via email.

We’re to be kicked out on the 17th, but it will probably happen
earlier, so the sooner you get started on the above the better.

It’s been a pleasure sharing with you all over the past few
years.

See you in the next place!

The Future of TinyBuckyLife

Come December 17 I don’t feel there is a point continuing on tumblr. I will keep the tumblr up and it won’t be deleted unless some sitewide purge happens and I’m taken down. I am planning to back up my content and will let you guys know where that ends up being.

This leaves the dilemma of where to go. I did make an Instagram account a while ago but didn’t really post anything to it. It is here:

https://www.instagram.com/tinybuckylife/

I’ve never really used Instagram before and this week is hectic so bear with me while I try and figure out how to use the platform to the best of my ability. Unfortunately from my short use of the platform I find Instagram is probably not the best site for my reviews/rambles/small tutorials. A friend suggested I set up a Facebook page. What do you guys think?

I have heard of Pillowfort but to be honest it sounds a bit sketchy to me and I would like to just find a place I can settle and the platform just seems too new for me to believe in its reliability.

.___. I am not touching Twitter with a ten foot pole. (This is not up for negotiation.)

Also if you yourself have an Instagram and have similar content to me or are someone I already know but have a different name don’t be afraid to pm me.

Tiny Pics for the Tiny Fam (ALSO FLAGGED)

Sorry this is YET ANOTHER post that is not about the Tinys but I like to share the things I’m working on. Today it is some tiny accessories for the Tiny house.

If you don’t know I have an extensive but eclectic collection of Re-ments which are Japanese Miniatures that usually come in small sets. You can buy individual blind boxes which I sometimes do but sometimes it is cheaper just to buy entire sets.

So I do.

I have this set:

Petit Sample – Haikara Taisho Roman Tei

image

And today we will focus on Set 3: Monokaki wa neru mae no nikka

image

And recently purchased this:

Moomin Warm House Nuku Nuku Fuyugomori (I know nothing of Moomins and care nothing for them but THIS SET IS SO APPROPRIATE FOR THE SEASON)

image

Look to Set 4: Danro no soba ni wa

image

And we measure things. And we select a few photos and we print them.

And we print this (this page is A4 sized):

image

And we print multiple sizes because measuring accurate in miniature is DIFFICULT. Also sometimes the printer is weird or

Shit happens.

I made the size I thought was accurate and then made sizes smaller and bigger. As you can see from the results it can vary.

image

Then we find the size that is appropriate.

And we cut them as accurately as possible. A good pair of paper scissors is important. Here is mine:

image

AND THEN WE HAVE PHOTOS

Don’t worry if they fall out just use a teeeeeny tiiiiinnny bit of blu tak to hold them in place.
